Part of our Optimal Wellness Program is the Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, a multidisciplinary device that uses shockwave technology to treat chronic, painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system. It’s a non-surgical approach for fast pain relief and mobility restoration without the use of pain killers – which makes it the ideal therapy to speed up recovery and cure various conditions causing acute or chronic pain.

“80-85% of our patients report improvement after just one treatment. The final outcome depends on various factors, but most studies report healing rate of 75-85%.”

How does Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy work?

The word “Extra-corporeal” means “outside the body”, referring to the fact that this treatment is non-surgical and non-invasive. Shockwave is an intense, but very short energy wave that travels faster than the speed of sound. Shockwave Therapy is applying high energy waves to painful spots and myoskeletal tissues with acute and chronic conditions. The energy forces new blood flow to the area which repairs and regenerates the processes of the bones, tendons and other soft tissues.

How many sessions are required for Shockwave Therapy?

The number of treatments can vary from patient to patient, depending on the condition and tissue response. Since the effect of treatment is aggregate, more than one session are typically required. Each session is usually one week apart. More than 80% of our patients experience relief right after the first treatment.

Does the Shockwave Therapy treatment hurt?

Patients have reported a slight feeling of discomfort during the treatment, primarily due to the level of pain they are already experiencing in the area. However, each session only lasts 5-10 minutes and most patients can tolerate this discomfort. Depending on the tolerance level of each patient, the intensity of the treatment can be adjusted in the device throughout the session.

What to expect after treatment?

More than 80% of our patients experience relief right after the first treatment. However, within 2-4 hours of the treatment, some experience soreness in the treated area. This soreness is normal and is tolerable.
