low back pain

Raise your hand if you believe that if you experience no pain, there must be no issue. If you are raising your hand right now, this article is for you.

When it comes to spinal health, one of the most common questions I am asked is: "why bother when you have no pain?". A similar analogy is, "why brush if you have no cavities?".

Why DO we brush our teeth religiously everyday? Because we have cavities or because we want to prevent having cavities?

Why DO we need to take care of our spine? Because we have pain or because we want to prevent pain?

Our spine is exposed to everyday stress such as constant sitting, bending, lifting, falling down (especially kids). These activities can have an impact on our spine. Just like eating candies, drinking coffee or other elements we expose our teeth to.

Most of the time our wonderful bodies can take care of the impact or "trauma". However, we really have no idea what's happening inside. An impact could trigger a domino effect that takes months or years to result in chronic pain. Most of my patients seek my help when they are already experiencing pain for a couple of weeks. But once diagnostics such as x-rays or MRI are done, I discover that there are degenerative processes that have been going on for months or even years.

Why even reach that stage? Practice proper spinal hygiene and have regular spinal checkups. See you soon.
